All I've Learnt: Self Care

Finding Balance: What Self-Care Means to Me

2018 started with a busy schedule, which meant exciting new projects, but it also prompted me to reflect on self-care. I knew about the usual practices—like taking baths and lighting candles—but I wanted to understand how to incorporate self-care into my daily routine rather than occasionally.

Through this journey, and with some help from Scentered, I've come to see self-care as a lifestyle. It’s not just a one-off activity but a series of intentional practices woven into everyday life. Self-care means respecting your time, nurturing your mental health, and not feeling guilty about taking time for yourself.

Self-Care as a Lifestyle

The key lesson I’ve learned is that self-care is deeply personal. What works for me may not work for you, and that’s okay. For me, it’s about letting go of guilt, slowing down, and finding small actions that bring me peace and motivation. It’s learning to prioritize your mental and physical well-being as much as your to-do list.

We often feel like we don’t have time for self-care, but the truth is, we don’t have time not to care for ourselves. The shift happens when you embrace self-care as part of your everyday life—it makes everything easier, from relationships with others to the one you have with yourself.

Self-Care Tools

To help incorporate self-care into your daily routine, here are a few tools I recommend:

  • Our Morning Journal: Our Morning Journal is designed to help you establish a healthy morning routine. It’s perfect for mindfulness, checking in with yourself, noting your thoughts and feelings, and setting intentions for the day. By making journaling part of your morning, you create space for self-reflection and mental clarity.

  • Our Mindfulness Journal: This is a versatile journal that you can use both in the morning and the evening. It’s designed to help you track your mindful habits over six months, encouraging the creation of mindful routines that support long-term health and happiness. Whether you’re noting gratitude, setting mindfulness goals, or reflecting on your day, this journal helps you stay intentional and grounded.

Both tools are essential for building mindfulness into your day and transforming small habits into long-lasting, positive changes. Learn more about our Journals here.

My Self-Care Routine

Morning: I’ve created a morning routine that sets the tone for my day: a workout, dry brushing, a quick shower, meditation, journaling, and planning. I focus on manageable tasks for the day to avoid overwhelm.

Evening: Instead of mindless scrolling, I’ve replaced it with reading—letting my mind unwind before bed. This small change has helped me relax and focus on the present.
