Why a Mindful Morning Routine Matters
In a fast-paced world, a Mindful Morning Routine acts like an anchor—a calm, consistent space where you can ground yourself before the noise of the day begins. It's more than just a wellness trend; it’s a mental and emotional reset that can influence how you think, feel, and show up in every part of your life.
Here’s what makes it so powerful:
-
You start the day on your terms.
From the moment we wake up, our minds are flooded with thoughts, emotions and all the things we need to do that day. This can give such an overwhelming feeling that we end up procrastinating and wasting time. It's an opportunity to check in with yourself before you give your time and energy to other people in your life. -
It boosts your clarity and emotional well-being.
When you create space for reflection, gratitude, or simply breathing in stillness, your mind becomes clearer and your nervous system calmer. -
You create alignment with your values.
By setting intentions each morning, you remind yourself of what really matters—helping you make aligned decisions throughout the day. -
Small habits compound into transformation.
A few mindful minutes each morning can slowly rewire your mindset, build self-trust, and increase your sense of purpose and control.
Before you start work on your new, mindful morning, review your routine currently and think of how it might be affecting your mindset and how it prepares you for the rest of the day. Think about actions that are working for you now and what habits are unhelpful or put you in a more negative state of mind.
Choose actions that have the best effect on you mentally and physically. Actions that make you feel more present, energised and motivated to start the day. Every action you do has a consequence and choosing actions that help you look after your mind, be more mindful, gain clarity and look after your body, add up over time and lead to positive outcomes. Even 30 minutes of solitude allows you to check in with what’s going on inside of you rather than absorbing the outside world first thing in the morning.
The SAVERS Method: A Simple Framework for Powerful Mornings
Hal Elrod’s The Miracle Morning introduced a practical and impactful formula for building a great morning routine: the SAVERS method. It stands for:
-
Silence – Meditation, breath-work, or mindful stillness
-
Affirmations – Empowering statements to set your mindset
-
Visualisation – Mentally rehearsing your ideal day or goals
-
Exercise – Moving your body, even if just for a few minutes
-
Reading – Personal growth, spiritual, or inspiring material
-
Scribing – Journaling for clarity, intention, and self-reflection
Each component is simple—but together, they create a deeply transformative routine.
Remember that a good day starts the night before, so be sure to also prioritise the quality of your sleep and prepare for the morning so that you are excited to wake up and complete your morning routine.
We recommend creating a "getting ready" order so that you don't have to spend time in the morning to think of what you'll wear, how you'll look, the order you get ready for the day etc. Create a solid step-by-step routine to make this process as automatic as possible and give yourself more time for your mindful morning rituals. This also involves preparing your environment for the next day (such as tidying your space).
